Driven by both changing consumer preferences and innovation from within the sector, the food industry is constantly evolving. There are a number of food trends on the horizon for 2026, being dominated by the combination of tradition and modernity.
Classic comfort dishes remain popular on menus, providing diners with familiar nostalgic favorites. But what we are more likely to see in 2026 and beyond is classics with a twist. This could mean adding new international flavors, or incorporating elements from a classic dish into a less traditional one. Think matcha flavours in chocolate brownies, or spiced pies and en croutes.
Global inspired flavours like pistachio, chai and miso are trending. Expect to see more South American dishes like feijoadas and ceviche, alongside Malaysian ingredients such as coconut, coriander and tamarind, and Korean influences like kimchi, rice bowls and gyoza.
More street food influences will migrate to traditional menus in 2026. Expect more bowl food and loaded dishes like fries and jacket potatoes. These offer great value and the fun factor when incorporated appropriately to menus.
Elsewhere we are seeing interest in limited edition dishes and unique collaborations like incorporating branded drinks, biscuits or confectionery into sweet dishes. Impressive, novel and instagramable desserts with unique decorative features or other elements of ‘wow’ factor will be popular.
By understanding both your customers and the food landscape, you can create menus with dishes that remain classic while offering new and inventive experiences. We love helping cook up the perfect dishes for any menu – if you’d like to talk more about yours, get in touch.
